Baby's first Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. Evan was a very happy baby on Christmas morning, just like every morning. He wasn't all that interested in the boxes or wrapping paper, his favorite gifts were the ones he could chew on. He is a very lucky boy, though, he got so many nice gifts. He'll be the best dressed boy at daycare, he has many new books to read, and a new toy box to put his new toys. We are very blessed and hope everyone had a wonderful day.

Winter wonderland

It wasn't the first snow of the season but the first time everyone was home to see it together and we just got our snowsuit recently. Evan didn't do anything except look around, obviously we need to get a sled but he doesn't know that. We have to have fun in the snow to make up for Mommy's 4 hour commute the other day, good thing she didn't run out of gas! By the way, if you enlarge the top picture you can see my top teeth, I just got 2 more for a grand total of 6 teeth.

Compare and contrast

It was only a few short weeks ago when Evan first met Santa. His second encounter, at daycare, was much shorter and involved tears. Evan got a good look at Santa before he sat on his lap and we think that made the difference. I don't think Santa will take it personally, he knows that Evan was a good boy this year.

Big boy bathtime

As Evan got too big for the infant bath tub, Mommy and Daddy had to make some adjustments. First we did the bath in the sink which was fine until Evan learned that he liked to splash and play while getting clean. The big tub is still a little too big so he got his very own inflatable tub which keeps him happy and keeps Mommy and Daddy from worrying too much.

I like Cheerios

No matter when Evan gets Cheerios, morning or night, before or after eating, he can't wait to get his hands on them and he's getting much better at getting them from his hand to his mouth. This boy likes to eat!

Playrooms

In the spirit of Where's Waldo, here are pictures of the finished basement, basically divided into 3 playrooms. Can you tell which are the big boy rooms and which is the little boy playroom?

The pool table has already been broken in, the tv and stereo work. We'll have to bring in some more little boy toys, maybe we can find some.

Hello Santa!

Well, I don't think this pic needs much commentary. Evan had a lovely, if brief, meeting with the man from the North Pole, he wasn't scared at all. I think he told Santa what he wanted for Christmas by mental telepathy. I think children and Santa have that ability. Just in time for the big night, Evan is sleeping longer and more soundly through the night.

Happy Thanksgiving

This was a big week for junior! It actually started a few weeks ago when he was able to get food from the high chair into his mouth. The repetoire so far includes Cheerios and crackers. Of course, the vast majority end up on the floor but A+ for enthusiasm. Then, this week we heard the first words and now we know exactly what's on his mind from "ba, ba, ba, ba..." and "da, da, da, da, da..." If that weren't enough, Grandma and Grandpa came to help celebrate Evan's first Thanksgiving. He had sweet potatoes and turkey, does it matter that it was pureed? He topped it off with jellied cranberries and garlic mashed potatoes.

Weekend in Viking land

This was a big weekend for a little man. First, he got to see his aunt Suzie and uncle Reid again, we practically took over the house. Second, he got a taste of Vikings fever and sang (well, listened to, really) the Vikings fight song. Lastly, he got up close and personal to a dog for the first time, it was a meeting of the minds. The last picture doesn't really need any explanation, just enjoy.

Action!

Evan has been exercising his legs and his vocal cords lately. Here, he shows off both.

Happy Halloween and Election 2008

Our Evan didn't go trick or treating this year but he sure was a help greeting all the Batmans, princesses, and Buzz Lightyears. He was very interested in the Hershey's bar but couldn't quite figure out what to do with it.
As you can see, Evan did his civic duty on Nov 4, he's wearing the I Voted sticker after all. Mommy and Daddy also like this picture because it shows off the current hair do. It's all natural, we want to see how long it can grow and still stand straight up.

It feels like fall

A pumpkin farm, bales of hay, and football, it must be fall. We went to Goebbert's Farm on a brisk day but that didn't keep the crowds away. Many of the activities were for older kids so we'll have to wait on the pony rides and the petting zoo but we're glad we went. We wonder how long the farm will be a farm with the multi million dollar homes next door. This was also a big weekend because Evan got his third tooth, one of the upper ones, you can't miss it!

Getting to know the family

We recently introduced Evan to Aunt Bea (actually, Gary's Aunt). We had a lovely visit, Evan really likes to meet new people and we got to see all of Aunt Bea's puzzles, we'll be back soon.

6 months and growing

This marks Evan's half birthday. He's officially 17 lbs 15 oz and 27 inches tall. That means he's growing longer faster than he's gaining weight but that may change, you never know. He makes his parents laugh everyday, they are so thankful for such a happy and good boy. He sleeps well at night and eats (everything) during the day. He likes to laugh himself, especially when Mommy tickles his tummy with her hair or when Daddy kisses his neck. Daddy is also good at swinging Evan in the air. Singing and dancing is also another favorite activity, it doesn't matter what the song.

Look at my new teeth!

I may still be eating all soft food but these teeth will come in handy when I start eating real food, can't wait. I think my top teeth are coming soon. I'm getting a lot of new hair, too.

It is so important to start early

We would never force Evan to do anything but we may encourage certain habits and preferences...besides, we didn't buy either of these outfits.

Evan at play

As Evan approaches his 6 month birthday (how did that happen?), he's busy discovering the world around him. He's playing with his toys, he watches the cars go by, and still licks and chews whatever comes his way. If he's looking over my shoulder he whips around to look in front in case he might be missing something. He'll lean as far forward as he can if something catches his eye. He's also trying out his vocal cords lately. Sometimes we'll hear him just making one sound over and over. He's well into his vegetables with fruits to follow. His appetite has never been a problem.

Four generations

Our first family road trip was to Arkansas. Evan got reacquainted with Grandma and Grandpa and was introduced to great Grandpa. Evan's like a whole new boy since the last time he saw his grandparents. There was so much to see at their house and so many musical gadgets. Evan went to church and met some of the neighbors and it's unanimous: so gosh darn cute. Time went by very quickly and hopefully we'll get to see everyone again soon.

The Garofalos

While we were in Arkansas, Evan got to meet and spend time with the Garafola family, which consists of Auntie Aimee, Uncle Rick, cousins Kinsey and Joshua. Some may say these are the 3 cutest kids in the world. The cousins were very gentle and loving, they showed baby Evan all their fun toys and gave him lots of hugs and kisses.

August 29, 2008

Today was a big day for Evan. First of all, he got to see his grandparents again, this time at their house (more details to come). Secondly, he sat up on his own for more than 1 second and at this age that's quite an accomplishment. He's getting so strong. Lastly, he cut his first tooth today. We can't see it but we can feel it. It is the bottom tooth, left of center. Whew, what a day!

Tummy time

Up until now tummy time caused much crying and unhappiness. Now we're starting to get a few minutes of smiley time before the crying starts. Evan is also turning over. At first turning over ended up as tummy time and you already know the result of that. He finally figured out how to get his other arm out from under him so turning over is fun.

Cereal tastes yummy

Evan had his first taste of cereal and really liked it. It only took a few bites for him to get used to the new taste and texture but he figured out what to do in no time.

Good thing my toys are soft

We're at the "put everything in my mouth" stage, hands (sometimes both at once), toys, big people's fingers, his bib. There's so much to discover

4 months old and a clean bill of health

Today was Evan's 4 month check up. He's officially 15 lbs., 9 oz and 25 inches long with a head circumference of 17 inches. That keeps him at the 50th percentile, he's so consistent. He also got another round of shots and of course cried afterwards but since it was nap time, all was well very quickly.

2 aunts, 2 uncles and 1 cousin

It was the coming together of both sides of the family, all to see Evan. Reid and Suzie came all the way from the Land of 10,000 Lakes to spend the weekend getting to know their newest nephew. Warren, Chelle, and Erik came over for dinner. As you can see, cousin Erik is getting an early start on teaching Evan the art of the high five. So much to learn!

I like my high chair

Evan took to his high chair very well as you can see, it's like a chaise lounge for him. The tray keeps his toys from immediately falling to the floor. Soon he'll be eating in this chair, hard to believe.

My old friends, the teddy bears

Here is Evan with his old friends, the teddy bears, which he's known since he was born. But something is different, either they're smaller or Evan's bigger, hmmm...

Laundry helper

Evan is such a big helper, it's amazing since he's only 3 months old. Here he is doing his part to help with laundry. What's next? Mopping the floor? Filling the dishwasher?

4th of July

Evan celebrated his first independance day in style, showing his support of the Cubs but being so cool at the same time.

Our new friend Elsa

Recently our friend Elsa and her mom Lee came for a visit. Elsa entertained us with Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the alphabet song (minus a few letters). Evan likes to make new big kid friends, hopefully we'll see lots of Elsa even though she lives so far away in Brewer/Packer land.
